Julie Tucker

Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff
  • Profile

Julie Tucker serves as the Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff for Student Development. In this role, she leads the development and implementation of the division’s strategic plan, oversees internal and external communications, and directs assessment efforts to enhance the student experience.

Prior to joining the University of Richmond, Julie spent 15 years at Denison University in both Advancement and Student Life. In Advancement, she created impactful programs for parent and family engagement, launched career-focused alumni initiatives, and spearheaded young alumni engagement strategies. During her 13 years in Student Life—most recently as Associate Vice President—she oversaw strategic planning, communications, and assessment, while also supporting key functional areas such as Orientation & First-Year Experience, Student Wellness, Campus Safety, and the Red Frame Lab, Denison’s hub for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Julie has deep expertise in strategic planning across areas including student life, wellness, family engagement, and young alumni development. She is especially passionate about cultivating a culture of assessment—leveraging direct measures, centering student voices, and using data to drive meaningful institutional change.

A proven builder, Julie played a central role in launching the Red Frame Lab; creating the signature ReMix alumni programs (including ReMix Entrepreneurship, ReMix Women, and Arts ReMix); and building the Ann & Thomas Hoaglin Wellness Center, alongside a cross-campus strategic plan for well-being. Her collaborative leadership style has positioned her as a key connector across institutional domains—Academic Affairs, Advancement, Admission, Alumni Engagement, Student Affairs, and Athletics.

Julie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Denison University and a Master’s degree in Education Policy and Management from Harvard University.
