College Deans

Richmond and Westhampton Colleges

In 1914, the Offices of the Dean of Richmond College and the Dean of Westhampton College were created to administer the academic regulations and provide student support for undergraduate students. At the time, the dean of each College was also the dean of the faculty. When the School of Arts & Sciences was created in 1991, the College deans were given dual appointments as associate deans for the School of Arts & Sciences.

This unique dual appointment is the basis of one of the University of Richmond's distinctive features: personal attention to the development of the whole student. The College Deans support students as they become the best versions of themselves, including programs and mentorship that help students explore how gender affects each of us as part of our multi-layered identities.

The Colleges share a common purpose to guide the academic, co-curricular, and social development of all University of Richmond students, and to foster a thriving and inclusive campus community.
